Majority of mag websites now in profit says survey

By Press Gazette

A survey of 71 consumer magazine websites from around the world has found that 54 per cent are making a profit.
This compares with 26 per cent when the same survey was carried out in 2003.
The research was carried out by the International
Federation of the Periodical Press which also found that 18 per cent of
magazine websites claim to be breaking even and 17 per cent are losing
money.
The average number of unique users per month for
the websites surveyed was around 115,000.
Some 80 per cent of the sites surveyed offer completely free access and
22 per cent of publishers offer access to a digital edition of the
magazine.
