Mail and Express titles have committed most Editors’ Code breaches under IPSO

The Independent Press Standards Organisation has upheld more complaints against the Express and Mail groups than any other newspaper titles. (Picture: Shutterstock)

In total, the press regulator has published details of 221 rulings since it replaced the Press Complaints Commission in September 2014.

Of these, 36 complaints have been upheld and 11 partly upheld. The regulator ruled that the Editors' Code of Practice was not breached in 173 cases. IPSO also published a ruling on the Sunday Mirror's Brooks Newmark story, although no complaint was made.

The Mail titles – Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, Mail Online and Scottish Daily Mail –  have been the subject of the most IPSO adjudications, 24, with four upheld and one upheld in part. These breakdown as follows:

  • Daily Mail: 12 complaints, two upheld

  • Mail Online: Six complaints, one upheld, one upheld in part

  • Mail on Sunday: Five complaints, none upheld

  • Scottish Daily Mail: One complaint, upheld.

The Daily Express has had three complaints upheld out of eight adjudications and the Sunday Express has had one upheld complaint out og two adjudications.

The Daily Telegraph has had three complaints upheld against it out of 14 ruled on.

The Financial Times, Guardian, Observer, Independent titles and Evening Standard are not regulated by IPSO.
