John Robertson MBE, non-executive director at Newbury Weekly News (Printers) Ltd, has been awarded the Newspaper Society’s President’s Prize.
The award, which recognises outstanding contribution to the local-media industry, was presented to Robertson at the NS AGM at Claridge’s in London earlier this month.
Robertson, a former NS president and a non-executive director at the Maidenhead Advertiser, said: ‘Coming towards the end of my career in regional newspapers, and having campaigned so long and so hard for the Independent Publishers’ Forum, I feel that to be recognised in such a way is a great honour.
‘I look forward to keeping in contact with my peers as a non-executive director at the Maidenhead Advertiser.’
Robinson is the 11th recipient of the prize, awarded at the discretion of the serving NS president Russell Whitehair. On presenting the award Whitehair praised Mr Robertson’s ‘unstinting and valued service’to the trade body.
Robertson will stand down from the NS board next month, handing over chairmanship of the NS’ IPF – of which he has been chairman for a total of almost 10 years – to Geraldine Allinson, chair of the KM Group.
He is also set to step down from his current role as non-executive director at Newbury at the end of this month.
