Entertainment website SoGlos has revealed it is looking at UK expansion as it celebrates its fifth annivesary with a redesign and relaunch.
According to the independent website's founders, the site has doubled turnover every year since it was launched and is on course to earn around £250,000 this financial year.
The ad-funded site employs four full-time staff and claims to reach 82,000 readers a month and more than 22,000 email newsletter subscribers.
Deputy editor James Fryer said: "We spent a significant amount of time examining media websites the world over to see what they were doing well, and not so well, before coming up with a site we believe is unparalleled in both style and substance. We’re confident it’s the best independent website in UK media.”
The new-look website (old version pictured above) boasts a number of new features, including new branding, design, sharing tools and greater search engine optimisation.
Advertisers are now offered enhanced directories and the new website incorporates Google Maps and Street View functionality.
“The online magazine has shook up Gloucestershire, but we’re often asked if there’s a SoBristol, SoManchester or SoCardiff on the horizon,” said Fryer.
“It’s something we’re now finally in a position to explore, whether we do it ourselves or by working in partnership with a large publisher – we think it would be a great fit.”
The free website makes its money via display advertising, enhanced listings and sponsorship. Clients include restaurants, hotels andd attractions serving Gloucestershire.
