Local journalists to blog for Newspaper Week

By Press Gazette

The Newspaper Society has launched a website to carry blogs from journalists about the progress of their newspapers’ campaigns for Local Newspaper Week 2008.

The week, now in its 10th year, is this year themed Campaigning for Your Community.

The site’s first blogger, Hereford Times’ deputy news editor Mark Bowen, is writing updates about the paper’s Safer Driving Campaign which hopes to raise awareness about road safety in the area.

NS communications director Lynne Anderson said: ‘Editorial staff from local and regional newspapers across the UK are invited to join Mark and blog on the website as their title runs a campaign.

‘The blogs will give unique behind-the-scenes insight into how local newspaper campaigns are run and allow titles to promote themselves through the Local Newspaper Week platform.”

The blogs, and other content showcasing local campaigns, can be read on www.localnewspaperweek.co.uk.
