Veteran world affairs correspondent Allan Little is to take over from Jon Sopel as BBC Paris correspondent.
Sopel is leaving the Paris-based job to join BBC News 24, where he will replace Gavin Esler, who is going to Newsnight.
Most recently, Little has had a roving role as part of John Simpson’s world affairs team covering many of the major stories of the last decade.
As Moscow correspondent, Little reported extensively on political and economic upheaval of the Yeltsin regime and major events such as the devastating earthquakes in Afghanistan in 1995. In early 1999 he returned to the UK for a period to work on current affairs projects and to present the Radio 4 Today programme.
