The GWR group has awarded its first annual bursary of £1,500 to London College of Printing broadcast journalism student Annette Finch.
The LCP bursary was established in September to encourage its journalism students to work for commercial radio after their studies.
As well as receiving £1,500 to help fund her through her studies, Finch gains two work experience placements of three weeks each in a GWR newsroom working as a fully fledged journalist.
Adam Edwards, GWR news team leader for the Midlands region, who set up the bursary, said: “We’re one of the only commercial radio companies to do this. It really shows our commitment to the training and development of future talent. We chose Annette because she has a real passion for commercial radio.”
Finch said: “Living in London is expensive so the bursary will help to pay my rent and I can concentrate on my studies. I’m really excited about doing the work experience at GWR.
It’s a fantastic opportunity to get my voice on air before I graduate – and make some good contacts.”
