"Absolute bloody mayhem" was how Liverpool Echo deputy editor Andy Edwards described the week that seven comedians were invited to guest edit the paper. Editor Alastair Machray decided to celebrate the city's annual Festival of Comedy by inviting comedians including Ken Dodd (above) and Stan Boardman to write leaders and give their views on the Echo's agenda.
Edwards said: "Ken Dodd's news conference was extraordinary, he really did go on forever, but he's a very funny man. He said the Echo and the other newspapers should consider having a happiness page and we will probably create a strap or logo that we can attach to two or three stories a day."
