Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

Journalists targeted by vandals near Giggs home

By Andrew Pugh

Police were this afternoon called to an incident near footballer Ryan Giggs’ home in Greater Manchester amid reports journalists’ cars had been attacked.

Reporters and photographers have been camped out near the Giggs family today after the Manchester United star was yesterday named in the House of the Commons as the Premiership footballer at the centre of a Twitter privacy row.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed police were called to a home in Chatsworth Road, Worsley, shortly after 3.20pm today, following reports that a number of cars had been damaged.

‘Officers attended and discovered at least six cars had been vandalised after a group of offenders arrived in a Ford Transit van and attacked the vehicles,” the spokesperson said.

A source at the Manchester-based Cavendish News Agency told Press Gazette that six or seven journalists were also pelted with eggs and flour outside the Giggs home. They said that car windows were smashed-in and tyres slashed.
