ITV News has appointed Ed Campbell as head of home news, overseeing
the whole UK newsgathering operation as well as forward planning across
all ITV News bulletins.
Campbell had been acting head of home news for several months
and is taking over from Cristina Nicolotti-Squires, who is moving on to
programme edit the ITV Lunchtime News in June when she returns from
maternity leave.
He joined ITV News as foreign editor in 2005 from APTN, where
he had been output/intake editor for five years.
Campbell began his
journalism career as a researcher for Clark TV in 1994 and was
production journalist and reporter for Westcountry TV from 1995-97.
He
moved on to join BBC News as a broadcast journalist in 1997 and, in
2000, became a reporter for the Money Channel.
Deborah Turness, the editor of ITV News, said: “The RTS award for home news
we won for our Selly Oak story this year would not have been possible
without Ed Campbell at the helm of our home news operation.
"He’s got a
dogged determination in the pursuit of exclusive journalism and I am
absolutely thrilled about his appointment.”
