ITN has announced a £1 million investment and rebranding to boost its multimedia activities.
The
money will go towards two new websites, enhancements to the online news
footage archive, high-definition cameras and video equipment and
technical enhancements to their current made-for-mobile news channel.
ITN
chief executive Mark Wood said: "In a rapidly changing media
environment consumers want access to content on an ever-increasing
range of platforms and devices. These platforms all offer something
different. ITN is ahead of the curve in anticipating and meeting these
needs and we intend to keep it that way."
Under changes announced
today ITN News now encompasses ITV News, ITV London, Channel 4 News and
More 4 News, ITN Source is the new name of the ITN Archive and ITN On
replaces ITN Multimedia and ITN Radio.
The new ITN On website
will showcase video content including sport, entertainment and hard
news available via mobile phones, and the ITN Source website, to be
launched on 1 September, will allow archived ITN footage to be sampled
and purchased online. ITN employ 800 staff, 220 of whom are permanently employed journalists.
The new money comes as ITN has announced a
new corporate identity. The network's new slogan is "Right Content.
Right Now". The company logo has changed from the familiar blue
lettering to white lettering with separately coloured borders to
identify the five new divisions that comprise the company.
According to ITN, turnover in its archive and multimedia divisions has trebled over the last two years.
The
investment has come from ITN's shareholders: ITV PLC, which owns 40 per
cent, and United Business Media , Daily Mail & General Trust and
Reuters, which each own 20 per cent.
