Reuters Gulf bureau chief Samia Nakhoul has been honoured by Italy’s Ischia Journalism Association for her work during the Iraq war.
Nakhoul, who was badly wounded in the war, was named news agency reporter of the year – an award that usually goes to Italian journalists.
She was part of the Reuters team based in Baghdad during the invasion of Iraq and was badly wounded when a US tank fired at the Palestine Hotel, the headquarters of international journalists.
Reuters cameraman Taras Protsiuk was killed in the same attack and two other Reuters colleagues were also wounded.
