The Times has shown some decidedly unfraternal behaviour over one of the flagship campaigns of News International stablemate the News of the World.
The Screws has campaigned tirelessly for a new “Sarah’s Law” since the death of Sarah Payne, who was murdered in 2000. After piling the pressure on a succession of home secretaries, a pilot scheme to crack down on child sex offenders was announced ‒a fact trumpeted in the NoW.
But just days later, on April 10, The Times declared: “Sarah’s scheme could backfire, say child workers.”
“They could have shown just a little more support rather than rubbishing one of our major campaigns,” says my mole.
