Internet future prompts Times name change

By Press Gazette

In a sign of the growing importance of the internet for traditional newspaper companies, Times Newspapers has changed its name to Times Media.

The Times has been investing heavily in its website over the past year and had a successful World Cup, notable for the popular daily podcast from comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner.

According to the last set of official audited figures, Times Online had eight million unique users in April. This compares with the current average daily sale of 656,862 for The Times print edition.

A Times spokesman told Press Gazette the name change had arisen because: "Our cross-platform offering isn't just newspapers anymore."
