“Insider” journalist Bergman made professor

By Press Gazette

The journalist played by Al Pacino in Oscar-nominated film The
Insider has been made a professor at the University of California.

Lowell Bergman left CBS news flagship current affairs show 60
Minutes after an investigation which revealed tobacco industry
executives had knowledge of the risks from smoking.

Bergman said: “The new world of news, with its flood of
information, makes in-depth reporting more valuable than ever as we
struggle to make sense of our world.

“The chair and the generous support of the university and other
donors help us expand the investigative journalism program at Berkeley
and hone the cutting edge that distinguishes this kind of reporting.”

Bergman is a founder of the US-based Center for Investigative reporting. He left 60 Minutes in 1998 to join PBS Frontline.
