The Independent is to give away 200,000 copies of the paper tomorrow as it publishes a 32-page supplement about the voting reform referendum.
Editor-in-chief Simon Kelner said: ‘The Independent believes very strongly that the democratic health of a country depends on engagement of voters.
‘By putting 200,000 free copies of The Independent into people’s hands ahead of this crucial AV vote, we are providing readers with all the information they need to make an informed choice at the polls.”
The special edition will be handed out in city centres around the country and at 38 student and 100 corporate locations.
The Independent today urged its readers to vote yes to AV on its front page.
The full-price edition of The Independent had an average daily circulation of 181,934 in March, of which 73,810 copies a day were bulk give-aways.
