Journalists at The Independent titles have voted to press ahead with a strike ballot in protest at an annual pay rise offer of 2.5 per cent.
According to the National Union of Journalists the motion to vote on whether to strike was passed by an “overwhelming” majority. The union has indicated it wants to keep negotiating with management pending any strike result.
Journalists at the Telegraph Group recently settled for an annual rise of three per cent, at the Express Group NUJ members settled for 2.4 per cent. Editorial staff at the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and People are currently balloting on strike action in protest at the redundancy terms offered to 39 journalists.
