Zoe Hughes has joined Newcastle morning paper The Journal as political editor, based in Westminster.
Hughes, 29, started her career at The Lancaster Guardian in 1994. She has since worked on The Garstang Courier, The Basingstoke Gazette and for the Press Association (firstly in Portsmouth, then the past three years as Westminster reporter).
She replaces Paul Linford, who has been the paper’s political editor since 1996, and more recently, assistant editor (politics). He has joined Northcliffe Newspapers to work on internet projects.
Journal editor Brian Aitken said: “Over the years, Paul Linford has helped The Journal set the agenda on the North-South funding divide.
“Zoe arrives at an exciting time, and I am confident she will take our coverage to new levels.”
