Tom Hendry has been appointed deputy editor of INS News Group, the Reading-based news agency.
He joined INS in 1998 as features editor, with responsibility for developing the department to meet the needs of national newspapers and magazines.
Hendry was news editor of the Daily Mirror for five years in the Eighties and went on to news edit both the Sunday Express and The Mail on Sunday.
His scoops at INS include exposing the Cheriegate scandal for The Mail on Sunday – the story of how the Prime Minister’s wife used conman Peter Foster to broker a Bristol property deal for her student son.
Hendry also played a key role in helping the Daily Mirror secure Tony Martin’s exclusive story, in face of fierce opposition.
Neil Hyde, managing director and editor of INS, said: “Tom will make a brilliant deputy.
“He will amalgamate his roles of deputy editor and features editor and substantially strengthen our management team.”
