Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

Guido Fawkes urges bloggers not to give HuffPo free ride

By Dominic Ponsford

Blogger Paul Staines has launched a campaign urging bloggers not to give their work away free on the Huffington Post, but instead to join his MessageSpace network of political blogs.

The Huffington Post carries content from thousands of bloggers in the US and is currently expanding the number of writers it publishes on Huffington Post UK.

Despite being bought by AOL for £315m earlier this year, Huffington Post does not pay its bloggers anything.

Staines is founder of the Guido Fawkes blog Order-Order and also a founder of the MessageSpace network which sells ads across around 30 political blogs.

He told Press Gazette that MessageSpace has paid out hundreds of thousands to blog publishers over the last five years under its 50/50 revenue split model.

He is now seeking to increase the number of bloggers on MessageSpage by reducing the entry criteria from 10,000 pages views a day to 1,000.

The MessageSpace ad states: ‘Arianna Huffington doesn’t much value bloggers, we pay bloggers thousands of pounds every month, if you value your work join the network today.”
