Previews of the new feature film about murdered Irish journalist Veronica Guerin have been given a positive response by reviewers ahead of its Dublin premiere on 8 July, writes Des Cryan.
One Irish reviewer described the film, Veronica Guerin, as “an honourable and responsible attempt” to do justice to the life and career of The Sunday Independent journalist.
Cate Blanchett is said by another reviewer to play Guerin with “an almost eerie authenticity” and comes across uncannily like the journalist, even to achieving an accent that strongly resembles hers. As the film charts the key events in the last two years of Guerin’s life, she is depicted as a brave, dogged and unconventional crime reporter.
Veronica Guerin will be released in the UK on 1 August and in the US on 17 October.
