The Guardian has appointed Washington-based journalist Michael Tomasky as editor of its US website, Guardian America.
His
role when he begins on 7 May will be to increase the newspaper’s online
presence in North America as well as enhance the site’s news and front
page.
The Guardian’s popular Comment is Free blogging network will be
expanded for an American audience.
The site will have an American-focused front page at guardianamerica.com.
Guardian
editor Alan Rusbridger said: “We already have a substantial and growing
US audience and Michael’s skills and experience will enable us to build
on this success.”
Tomasky said he was “honoured” to take part in Rusbridger’s US strategy.
Until
last year, Tomasky was editor of The American Prospect, a
liberal-leaning Washington magazine and has worked for The Village
Voice and the New York Observer.
