Wales’s Grand Slam success in the rugby Six Nations competition last weekend saw a massive sales surge at Trinity Mirror‘s Wales on Sunday and Western Mail titles.
Circulation at the Wales on Sunday the day after Wales’ Saturday victory over France is understood to be up by around 58 per cent – to a total of around 47,000 copies – year on year following its Grand Slam edition. The latest ABC figures for the last six months of 2011 showed the WoS was one of only two newspapers in Wales to increase year on year circulation, up 0.2 per cent to 28,662.
The surge also carried through to the Monday edition of sister title the Western Mail, which is understood to be up by around 25 per cent. It usually averages sales of around 25,898
Copies of the Wales on Sunday’s Grand Slam edition are now being sold on Ebay – with one copy of the paper, which has a cover price of £1, going for £4.
