Future has closed Wedding Day magazine as the company continues to
consolidate its position in the wake of pre tax losses announced in
March this year of £12.1m.
The company has already closed 11
titles this year, blaming the downturn in consumer spending and in its
portfolio's heartland – the gaming market – and also the migration of
readers to online.
Future acquired Wedding Day and two other
titles, Junior and Junior Pregnancy & Baby in December 2004 when it
bought Beach Publishing group. At the time, Wedding Day was a
bi-monthly publication with an ABC of 31,679 which has since dropped to
16,118.
Simon Wear, group publishing director at Future, said:
"The level of investment needed to put Wedding Day into a position of
sustainable performance has proved too great.
"We are currently
consulting with all members of the editorial and commercial teams about
other suitable opportunities within Future."
