French photographer shot during gun attack in Paris newsroom

A newspaper photographer has been blasted by a shotgun this morning in Paris by a lone gunman who escaped on foot.

The attacker walked into the office of newspaper Liberation before opening fire and hitting the photographer.

On Friday, a man entered a Paris TV station and threatened journalists before running off. Police are trying to determine whether the two incidents are linked.

The 27-year-old victim is said to be in a very serious condition.

It is understood the newspaper office will be closed for several hours today while police undertake a full forensic examination of the scene.

Liberation editor Fabrice Rousselot condemned the attack saying it was outrageous that someone could target members of the press. He said that his colleagues were very emotional following the shooting.

It is understood the gunman took a man hostage and forced him to drive to the Champs Elysees.

French media claim the hostage taker was armed with grenades.

Since the attack, police have been stationed outside all media organisations in Paris.
