A freelance working for the The Economist and Forbes magazine has been expelled from Nigeria after being taken to Lagos airport under police escort and put on a plane for Paris.
Reporters Without Borders said the decision to expel Silvia Sansoni was a violation of press freedom. It added: “We are not really surprised. The authorities have been treating the foreign press with contempt for several years and have never stopped making the working lives of foreign correspondents difficult.”
Sansoni was accused of breaking immigration laws and abusing her accreditation. She said she had a valid visa at the time of her expulsion.
