Four more editorial jobs at risk on the Brighton Argus

By Dominic Ponsford

The arrival new Brighton Argus editor Mike Gilson has coincided with news of four more editorial redundancies at the title.

Press Gazette understands that two features journalists are set to lose their jobs as well as two staff photographers.

The latest departures come after successive waves of cutbacks over the last five years which have seen at least 20 journalists leave the Newsquest daily.

Gilson took over as Argus editor this month after five years in charge of the Belfast Telegraph.

Print sales of the Argus fell 12.3 per cent year on year in the latest figures from ABC dropping to an average of 13,648 per day. Average daily web browsers rose 38 per cent year on to 46,747, according to ABC.
