One of The Scotsman's most illustrious editors, Eric B Mackay, died on Tuesday, aged 83.
Mackay was editor from 1972 to 1985, which were successful years at the Edinburgh newspaper, with a circulation hovering around the 100,000 mark.
Mackay joined The Scotsman as a sub-editor in 1950 and, apart from a brief period at The Daily Telegraph, spent all his working life on the newspaper.
A full obituary will appear in a future edition of Press Gazette.
