Two former Manchester Evening News journalists have launched a new online magazine site for Manchester.
Eric Jackson, former travel editor and TV columnist at the MEN, and Diane Cooke, the paper’s former Women’s editor have rolled out The Natter.
The new site will cover lifestyle, the arts, people, fashion, fitness and beauty in and around Greater Manchester with contributions from freelance journalists.
“You won’t see us giving chapter and verse about hospital closures in Oldham, which you’d look for in the MEN, or obsessing about the swankiest new restaurants, like Manchester Confidential,” said Jackson, who will edit the new site.
“Instead we are looking at the extraordinary people and more offbeat events and stories that are all around us in this amazing, vibrant region.”
The Natter is in the process of hiring a sales executive added Jackson, who currently lectures in magazine journalism at Salford University.
“We believe this is a unique site, quite unlike the MEN or Manchester Confidential’s sites. For a start it looks completely different, and looks more like a magazine than a normal website,” he added.
“The emphasis is on good use of pictures and headlines and not cramming too much on the home page, so that stories have room to breathe.”
