Anderson, known as ‘Big Jim’, held a number of executive roles during his 40-year career in Fleet Street and was one of the original staff of The Mail on Sunday at its launch in May 1982.
According to report on MailOnline, he began his career there as assistant chief sub-editor, later becoming managing editor and deputy editor, a post he held until 1992.
At the time of his retirement in 2008 he was letters editor at The Sunday Telegraph.
He began his career as a reporter on the Sussex Express in the 1950s and worked for the Cambridge Evening News in the 1960s, before joining the Evening News in London in 1968, rising to become the paper’s chief sub-editor.
The funeral will take place on Friday at St Bride’s, the journalists’ church, in Fleet Street.
