A feature writer at the Isle of Wight County Press is switching desks to return to her favourite job, sub-editing.
Karen Nicholson, who started working with the paper last August, will start her new job at the end of May.
Nicholson said: ” I’ve been subbing for years, from when subs used to be cutting and pasting literally. I find subbing on modern systems very creative.”
Brian Dennis, editor of the Isle of Wight County Press said: “She has got lots of experience and enthusiasm and all the right skills. When we appointed her last year we knew she could sub as well,” he added. “These days you can’t find a sub for love nor money.”
Nicholson started her career as a trainee reporter at the Sussex Express and County Herald in 1977. She then went to work for the Observer Seriesin Hastings, Battle and Bexhill.
During this time she worked as a court reporter, features editor and subeditor, before moving up north in 1991 with her husband George, where they both worked at Whitehaven News.
After three and a half years at the Teesdale Mercury they moved back down south, where Nicholson secured her current job with the County Press.
