Ex-politicos join Sky News review tea

By Press Gazette

Sky News has signed up former Labour MP Oona King and Michael
Howard’s former political secretary Rachel Whetstone as contributors to
The Sky Report with Julie Etchingham – the channel’s new weeknight news
programme which will air from Monday, 24 October.

King and
Whetstone will appear on Friday evenings to review the week’s news and
culture, as well reporting on special projects for the programme.

It
is a first move into television news for both former politicos.
Whetstone has just stepped down as Howard’s political secretary, having
worked with him on and off since she was his special adviser when
Howard was Home Secretary.

King has spent most of her adult life
in politics – first as a student of political science in York and in
Berkley, California, then as a researcher for Glenys Kinnock and for
the GMB union.

King was elected MP for Bethnal Green and Bow in
1997. In May 2005 she was ousted by George Galloway after a vicious
election battle.
