On 13 February, 1971 Alan Gill, then a reporter with the Surrey
Comet, left England to take up an offered post with the Sydney Morning
Herald.
Gill went on to become the Herald’s religious affairs
writer, general feature writer and letters editor. In 1995 he was made
a Member of the Order of Australia for services to the media.
Joining
Gill in Australia was fellow Comet scribe Tony Townsend who became a
producer/presenter on commercial radio and now produces the main
television news bulletin for Australia’s Special Broadcasting Service.
Both would like to hear from old ex- Surrey Comet staff of the 1960s and early 1970s. Contact via alangill@netspace.
