Evening News embarks on health kick

By Press Gazette

The Bolton Evening News has launched a campaign to persuade its readers to lead healthier lives.

The Fit For Life campaign, which will run for the rest of the year, was launched with a week-long series of articles outlining the main health issues facing the population nationwide and specifically in Bolton. Heart disease is understood to be the town’s biggest killer.

Local councillor Andy Morgan is aiming to lose some of his 18 stones in weight and write a weekly column on his progress.

This week the Newquest-owned daily (circulation 36,181) focused on children’s health and included a feature revealing children’s lunchtime preferences at one local school.

Editor Steve Hughes said: “We are passionate about wanting to make a difference. Our aim is to let people make up their own minds after being presented with a wealth of information on all manner of subjects, from children’s health, to diet fads.

“We want to be seen as proactive and educational. The aim is to inform people to help prevent younger generations from leading unhealthy lifestyles through ignorance.”
