Emap completes web overhaul with Broadcast relaunch

By Paul McNally

Emap has today completed the online relaunch of its weekly B2B magazines with the unveiling of its 10th site in four months.

Television trade magazine Broadcast (broadcastnow.co.uk) is the last of the Emap weeklies to move to a new design, using the Webvision content management system by Abacus E-Media.

The relaunch process began last July when Emap Inform, the group’s B2B publishing arm, hired Abacus to revamp the 10 sites and replace its existing CMS, Tridion. The first of the new sites went live in February this year.

Emap Inform digital marketing director Graham Ruddick said: “It was evident that the existing content management platform would not be able to support us in our digital objectives.”

According to Emap, each of its relaunched sites has performed better in terms of search, traffic and return visitors.

It said the Construction News website saw a 71 per cent increase in the number of its pages being indexed by Google.

The 10 sites to have been overhauled are: Construction News, Drapers, Retail Week, Nursing Times, Broadcast, Local Government Chronicle, Architects Journal, Screen, New Civil Engineer and Health Service Journal.

Ruddick added: “It is extraordinary that such sophisticated sites have gone live in such a short timescale.”

Emap is understood to now be considering whether to implement Webvision at some of its smaller websites. The group owns more than a dozen monthly B2B magazines.
