The minister in charge of Freedom of Information, Michael Wills, has been confirmed as a speaker for the Society of Editors conference in Manchester next month.
Editors will have the chance to question the minister on proposals – still on the legislative backburner – to drastically water down FoI by changing the fees regime.
Gavin O’Reilly, chief operating officer of Independent News and Media, will open the two-day conference in Manchester on 4 November.
Other speakers include: Daily Telegraph editor Will Lewis; Mail on Sunday editor Peter Wright; News of the World editor Colin Myler; BBC deputy director-general Mark Byford; Dorothy Byrne of Channel 4; and director of public prosecutions Ken MacDonald.
Royal spokesman Paddy Harveson and boxer Ricky Hatton are to speak at the annual dinner.
A secret special keynote speaker has also been confirmed for this year’s event.
