Former Liverpool Daily Post editor Jane Wolstenholme has turned her hand to writing fiction, her first chick-lit novel is out this month under a pseudonym.
Bridesmaids by ‘Jane Costello’is being published in the UK by Simon & Schuster. Set in set in Liverpool, Lancashire and Cheshire, it follows four women over the course of several weddings.
Costello, 34, is originally from Aigburth, Liverpool, and now lives in Burscough, Lancashire. She said: ‘Writing chick-lit novels is very different from my previous career as a newspaper journalist, but it is a genre that I’ve always loved for its humour, pace and brilliant characters.
‘It has been a life-long ambition of mine to write a novel, and I’d made several half-hearted attempts to do so since my early 20s. The idea for Bridesmaids came to me while at a friend’s wedding.”
Costello wrote the book while on maternity leave from the Liverpool Daily Post with her first child, and after finding an agent secured a two-book deal with Simon & Schuster in 2006, leaving her job as editor of the Daily Post in January 2007.
