Echo pulls out of towns
The Southern Daily Echo will no longer be sold in Basingstoke and Andover as Newsquest Hampshire believes sales in those areas are too low to make the cost of distribution worthwhile, writes Mary Stevens.
Managing director Stewart Dunn said: “The distribution of the Southern Daily Echo is always under review to ensure we make maximum use of our resources. In the case of Andover and Basingstoke, the number of papers sold in both these locations did not, in our opinion, warrant a daily van run.
“The Echo, which has seen its base sale [Jan to June 2003] rise by 2 per cent, is still available for sale by subscription in these areas”.
