Don Hale back in newspapers

By Press Gazette

Campaigning journalist and former Matlock Mercury editor Don Hale
has returned to the press as an associate editor at North Wales
Newspapers.
He joined the group on a freelance basis in
December and has helped lead the new design of free weekly The North
Wales Pioneer.
His main responsibilities are with the Pioneer but he will also be
working on the group’s other coastal titles including the North Wales
Chronicle.
Hale has edited five newspapers and was
instrumental in overturning a number of high profile miscarriages of
justice including that of Stephen Downing who spent 27 years in jail
before his murder conviction was overturned.
Hale said: “I have had a great few years or so
campaigning for justice. You do miss the buzz of the newsroom and the
potential here is tremendous, me and the team have virtually created a
new paper with the Pioneer and will turn losses into profit.”
