Documentary will chart history of Liverpool titles

The Liverpool
Daily Post and Liverpool Echo are featured in a documentary that will
cover the history of the city over the past 150 years.

A film
crew has interviewed staff past and present on the two Trinity Mirror
newspapers about the day-to-day workings of the titles, as well as some
of the major stories they have covered. It also filmed the Post’s 150th
celebrations this year. The documentary was the brainchild of Daily
Post acting editor Mark Thomas and Northstar Television producer Ged
Clarke.

Thomas said: “We have had a busy year of major events to celebrate this very significant milestone in our history.

“This programme is a great chance for us to share those celebrations with the viewing public of the Northwest.

At
the same time we can give them an insight into our part in the recent
history of the region, and into how we produce our newspapers.”

Some of the bigger events journalists talk about include Beatle-mania, the Toxteth riots and the Hillsborough disaster.

More
recently was the city’s elevation into European Capital of Culture
status and Liverpool FC’s European Champions League victory.

Former
Post and Echo journalists interviewed in the two-part documentary,
provisionally named Echoes of the Post, include former BBC political
editor John Sergeant and Daily Mirror columnist Brian Reade.

The programme, presented by former Brookside actor John McArdle, will be transmitted on Granada ITV on 4 October and 11 October.
