Do we need a Register of Journalists’ Interests?

MPs are required every year to declare the gifts and hospitality they’ve received. Isn’t it about time journalists did the same?

Mike Cross – writing in this month’s issue of NUJ in-house magazine, The Journalist – thinks so.

“If we take freebies, or work for corporate clients, then readers have a right to know,” he says.

“Journalists are at the forefront of demanding transparency in other walks of public life. If we’re to be taken seriously, we should be part of the process.”
