Deputy editor announcement

By Press Gazette

Newsquest has named the South Wales Echo’s deputy editor Mark Waldron as editor of the Swindon Evening Advertiser.

He takes over from Simon O’Neill, who has moved from Swindon to head up the Oxford Mail.

Waldron, left, said: “An editorship is something I’ve been working towards for a number of years and this job came up. I like the look of the paper and think it is a good quality paper already, as showed by the recent ABC figures [24,004]. I think there’s a lot of potential there and hopefully I can take it forward.

“I’ve got various plans but nothing I want to go into at the moment.”

Waldron, 37, began his career as a trainee reporter on the Aldershot News. He then worked at the Hull Daily Mail as a senior reporter and assistant news editor. He joined the Echo in 1994 as district news editor before moving to the main newsdesk. He also spent a period as acting editor in 2001.
