Damilola bid ‘no spoiler’

By Press Gazette

A News of the World senior executive has denied claims that the bid to buy the story of witness Bromley was just a spoiler.

Head of investigations Greg Miskiw has admitted being involved in spoilers before but he told the employment tribunal that, on this occasion, he was confident the deal would come off.

NoW lawyer Sarah Moore said: “Mr Rose claims the whole issue of Bromley was a plot to get rid of him, it is wholly improbable and implausible. “There is no guarantee, even if this was some remarkable plot of the NoW, that he would have resigned. “You have to consider what caused the applicant to leave at the time. He did not expressly say ‘you messed up the Bromley deal, I know it was all intentional, that is why I am leaving’.”

She said the real reason for Rose’s resignation was because the NoW had published a story about two police officers involved in the Damilola Taylor trial having an affair.
