Daily Mail owner donates £100,000 to help Grenfell Tower fire victims

By Dominic Ponsford

The Daily Mail’s owner, Daily Mail and General Trust, is donating £100,000 to a charity supporting victims of the Grenfell Tower disaster.

The Daily Mail reports that The Kensington & Chelsea Foundation has been chosen by DMGT chairman Lord Rothermere and chief executive Paul Zwillenberg as its “local charity partner” to receive the donation.

DMGT has also promised to support employees “who wish to help at relief centres,” in addition to matching their donations “up to a total of £50,000”.

The Daily Mail’s Kensington offices are located two miles from the Grenfell Tower, in the same London borough (Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea).

Members of the public wishing to donate can do so directly via the charity’s website.

Cheques payable to ‘The Kensington & Chelsea Foundation’ can be sent to: Grenfell Tower Appeal, The Kensington & Chelsea Foundation, 111-117 Lancaster Road, London W11 1QT.

The Daily Mail website Mail Online has been the subject of over 1,500 complaints to IPSO after it named a man whose fridge is alleged to have exploded causing the fire. Various other newspapers have also named and pictured the man.
