Daily apologises over ‘worst caption fail of all time’

By Press Gazette

Welsh daily newspaper The Western Mail has apologised over what has been dubbed the ‘worst caption of all time’on Twitter.

At the end of a picture caption on a story about Mid Wales Airport manager Bob Jones, who died when a light aircraft he was travelling in crashed into a Powys mountainside in January, was the acronym LOL, which stands for Laugh Out Loud

One of the first Twitter users to spot the caption, Barry Taylor (@Gwennwys), wrote: ‘Looks like the Western Mail has sunk to unacceptable new lows. Time the editor started actually editing”

Another Twitter user, Will McManus ‏(@will_mcmanus), said: ‘Massive captioning error in the Western Mail. I know they happen now and again, but this is pretty appalling”.

The tweet ‘Worst caption fail of all time?’was retweeted by hundreds of users.

A spokesman for Western Mail publishers Trinity Mirror said: ‘The caption error in today’s Western Mail is under internal investigation.

‘We apologise for any offence this error may have caused.”
