Counties double Look East staff

By Press Gazette

BBC regional news programme Look East is expanding its coverage of the Essex and Suffolk areas with the appointment of two extra journalists from the Norwich newsroom, effectively doubling the programme’s presence in each county in the process.

Richard Daniel will join the Suffolk newsroom and Gareth George will increase output from Essex.

From early June, Daniel will team up with Kevin Burch, the existing Suffolk reporter on the road. Already working for BBC Look East in Norwich for approximately a year, Daniel is also currently the presenter of BBC Radio 4’s Home Planet, an environmental phone-in programme.

Daniel’s career began on a BBC local radio course in 1991 and he went on to work as a reporter and producer on a number of BBC radio stations, including Radio Derby, Radio Devon, Radio Cambridgeshire and Radio Suffolk.

He moved over to television at BBC Norwich in 1997, working as a journalist for the newly launched News 24.

In Essex, George will join reporter Amelia Reynolds at the Look East newsroom based in Chelmsford.

He was at the Norwich Look East newsroom for 18 months before moving over to Essex. Prior to that he worked as a journalist for Anglia TV for two years.

Until now the daily television news programme had to rely on a single journalist in each of the counties – this will be the first time two journalists have worked together to cover each county.

Look East editor Dave Betts said the appointments would bring Look East closer to people in the two counties.
