Corrie killer helps to boost Soaplife

By Press Gazette

Reader interest in the dramatic downfall of Coronation Street killer Richard Hillman helped IPC’s Soaplife to show a year-on-year sales increase of 12 per cent to 115,071.

Editor Hellen Gardner said: “You can’t deny that Richard Hillman captured the whole nation’s imagination. Everyone in the country knew about him. When the soaps have a story like that, it’s a gift from God.”

Market leader Inside Soap was not quite so lucky, slipping 2 per cent to 247,699, while All About Soap increased 1.8 per cent to 106,049.

Bauer’s cut-price TV Choice climbed 12.3 per cent to 967,807, behind What’s On TV, which continued to lead the sector with sales of 1.7 million.

Approaching its 80th birthday with the introduction of expanded listings, Radio Times reported an ABC of 1.2 million. TV Times tumbled 7.2 per cent to 529,632 and TV Quick suffered a big fall, down 10.4 per cent year on year to 394,251.
