The Newcastle Evening Chronicle's website ChronicleLive is relaunching with closer tie-ins to a free weekly print newspaper.
The changes to Chronicle Live are part of a Trinity Mirror re-branding strategy, which will see the free weekly Herald & Post newspaper renamed the Chronicle Extra — an overt link to the main daily title.
ChronicleLive will offer breaking news, videos, blogs, forums and podcasts.
Under the heading "Your Shout", ChronicleLive readers will be able to post comments and start new topics for discussion, as well as alerting reporters to new things happening in the area.
At the moment, there are two sports blogs and others are in the pipeline.
Evening Chronicle editor Paul Robertson said: "We're really ramping up our efforts with the website.
"It's updated daily, we have somebody monitoring it during the day, putting breaking news on there that's happened outside our edition time.
"Or if we've got something going in the next day's paper, we promote it".
ChronicleLive already claims 100,000 unique users every week and hopes to reach more.
A sixth edition of the free paper is being published for Derwentside, with an additional 30,000 copies being printed this week.
