The Chinese government has warned that any criticism of this summer’s Beijing Olympics will not be allowed to discredit China, The Guardian’s Beijing correspondent Jonathan Watts reports today.
An article in the People’s Daily, controlled by the Communist Party, says that China faces “accusations from around the world, including misunderstandings, sarcasm and very harsh critisism”.
It also warns that any attempt to use the event to raise the of Taiwanese independence will be opposed.
How will the authorities react to hundreds of British journalists with critical eyes descending on their event?
