What Car? has appointed Chas Hallett as its new editor-in-chief with immediate effect.
He joins from another Haymarket Consumer Media title, Autocar, which he has edited for the past five years.
At Autocar Hallett picked up a PPA magazine of the year award and oversaw the growth of autocar.co.uk. He also oversaw production of its 5,000 road test issue – the biggest ever in the title’s 116-year history.
Between 1994 and 2002 Hallett had stints at What Car? as deputy road test editor, features editor and content editor.
In a statement released by the company he said: “I started my career as a motoring journalist on What Car? so I am hugely proud and excited to be returning as editor-in-chief of Britain’s biggest and best car buyer’s guide. We now have the team to make What Car?’s magazine and website even bigger and better.”
What Car? publishing director Andrew Golby said: ‘Chas returns to What Car? with the highest possible credentials. We have ambitious plans for the brand, and it is vital that our editorial product is of the highest possible quality. Under Chas’s leadership I am extremely confident of us achieving all we hope and more.”
